Qualifying saw a huge field of 32 cars lined up for the first round with Justin Wade setting a cracking 1:24.618 for pole position with Bruce Cook, David Homer, Graeme Wilkinson and Bruce Worgan rounding out the top 5.

Jason Grimmond in the Grimmo’s Garage V8 Commodore still struggling with oil pressure issues stemming from the hit out at Bathurst earlier this year, was all the way back in 29th position with a lot of work to do.

Ken Moffet suffered engine failure pulling up at the end of the main straight and would not compete in the remainder of the weekend.

Race 1 saw Bruce Cook make a great start getting the jump on Justin Wade into turn 1. Cook’s lead was short lived with Wade in the Ryno Insurance BMW returning to the top spot at the end of the first lap.

With the cars bunched up there was action a-plenty throughout the field with Greg Hartnett passing 12 cars throughout the race hunting down Scott Dean in the CarSelling.com.au Yaris towards the end. Warren Skelton and Darcy Wade had a cracking race nose-to-tail for the 12 lap duration with Darcy losing out to Skelton coming home in 7th and 8th respectively.

Justin Wade would go on to take the race win with Cook in 2nd, and David Homer in the Suzuki Swift filling out the final podium spot.

A huge effort by Steven Jukes to replace a rear axle would see him back on the grid for the start of race 2.

Race 2 was a rolling start with Justin Wade taking the early lead before mayhem ensured at turn 4, with Bruce Henley looping the Electro Master RX8 at the hairpin.

Bruce Cook was a retirement after running solidy in the top 3 all weekend. Jason Grimmond’s oil pressure gremlins persisted forcing him to start off rear of grid, but a huge drive saw him come home in 6th position.

A short delay on the grid set the stage for a great race 3 battle. Steven Jukes would start at the rear of the pack and put in stellar drive to come through to 7th outright. Unfortunately David Homer had to be content with 5th after over heating issues in the giant killing Suzuki Swift.

Greg Hartnett in the Zero Tolerance Motorsport Nissan was in a battle with Brett Battery’s Clean Up Skip Bins BMW towards the end with Brett passing Greg on the last lap for 9th position.

Justin Wade took a clean sweep of the weekend, with David Waldon in second and 1st in the Under 2 litre class. Jason Grimmond rounded out the top 3.

Round 2 of the Queensland Improved Production championship will be held at Queensland Raceway on April 30th – May 1st. With a diverse range of cars and drivers, the battle for outright as well as class honors should be hotly contested.
