Improved Production QLD was at Queensland Raceway this weekend, with action right across the field in all four races.

Justin Wade in the Ryno Insurance BMW set pole position with a 59.376 on the clubman circuit followed by Jason Grimmond, David Homer, Tony Isarasena and Chris O’Shannessy rounding out the top five.

Race one was run on the clubman circuit and started with a spin from Douglas in the BMW after locking his rear brakes heading into turn three. He put in a great drive over the rest of the race to finish 15th.

Wade took the race one win from from pole and was also the only car to dip below 60 seconds with the fastest lap of the race. In under 2 litre the pace was hot with both Chris O’Shanessy and Peter Casato turning out very fast lap times.

Race two on Saturday afternoon saw drivers hit the national circuit configuration with a great battle between Wade and Jason Grimmond in the Grimmo’s Garage Commodore for the lead.

O’Shannessy came home fifth outright to take the under two litre race win.

Race thee was run in damp conditions on Sunday morning out on the clubman circuit, which gave the advantage to the under two litre front wheel drive cars.

Matt Swarbrooke set the fastest time in the race with a 1:05.505 and finished in seventh position.

Light contact from behind in turn one saw Greg Hartnett tour the infield and Rod Lynch and Taylor Hurford end up in the gravel.

Casato was the first under two litre to cross the line, with Justin Wade taking another first place overall win.

Race four, the final of the weekend, was run in dry conditions on the national circuit. After running in the top six all weekend Bruce Cook did not finish due a throttle cable issue.

Wade and Grimmond were battling it out again for the win with Grimmond unable to secure the top spot.

“I had a great start in race one and two to lead, but I didn’t quite have the correct setup,” said Grimmond.

“Race three was very slippery and I had a great battle with David Homer and Bruce Cook. And in race four I was coming for Justin Wade with two laps to go but I couldn’t stop the car. I had no brakes.”

Wade took another clean sweep of the round winning all four races. Casato won the under two litre class, with Shane Klass taking his first round win in the 1600cc class.

Improved Production Queensland would like to thank CarSelling.com.au and MotorsportZone.com for their continued support of the category. The next round will be at Morgan Park May 28 – 29.
